NFPA Scholarship Fund Use and Refund Option

The extreme economic turbulence that has occurred throughout the world this past year has required us all to rethink our priorities and dramatically tighten our belts to weather this tremendous financial storm. The NFPA is no different. Your Board of Directors and its committees have dramatically reduced our operating budget while still trying to maintain a national presence for foster parents across America. Many of the board members have assumed responsibilities far beyond their volunteer job descriptions and have been involved in many late night and weekend conference calls to redirect the efforts of the NFPA in a more efficient and effective manner. We have found that even these efforts have fallen short from the perspective of maintaining a national organization and therefore the Board of Directors has decided to utilize funds it has had set aside for scholarships to maintain the organization through this turbulent time. It was not without great soul searching and anguish that the board came to this decision and it is the board’s intent to only use these funds if absolutely necessary and to only use the minimum amount necessary from the scholarship funds to get us through this crisis.

The Board of Directors also approved the option of individuals who had given to the scholarship funds to have their donations refunded to them if they can provide the NFPA with the proper paperwork that can prove their funds were given specifically to the scholarship fund of the NFPA. The request for refund must be made to the NFPA no later than March 8, 2010 by close of business Pacific time by mail or fax. All documented proof of the donation must be sent by mail and received in our office by March 15, 2010 by close of business Pacific time.
